I'd skip the Y8 ecu though and go with a P28 and an OBD1 conversion harness. It will only cost a little more in the end since although the P2P Y8 ecu is cheaper to buy, you also need a knock sensor. WebJan 4, 2004 · So like a D16Y7 or D15B7 motor with an 6th gen Y8 VTEC head will never achieve what a factory D16Y8 motor will with the factory Y8 being stock and the D16Y7/D15 having a Y8 or A6 head. Just something about "building" your own motor that makes it not as good. But if budget is your issue, then go for the head swap.

Both are vtec engines, the vtec-e isn't a better form of vtec, its just how honda designed it.

If you keep the Y7 ecu and don't do mini-me the only direct-replacement t/b is from the Y8 automatic. Silly to buy one though, you can just take the throttle rotor and spring from the LS t/b you have and put it on your Y7 t/b. It will give you better fuel maps and has vtec activation already in it. Another good idea is to get the y8 intake manifold. It flows air much better then the a6.
